could also have the boys make posters, each one with a different way that
students could demonstrate being a good citizen.
Volunteer to sing a patriotic song as

Encourage citizens to vote with “Remember

make copies from a computer scan and have each boy, with an adult, put them on
neighborhood front doors.
Visit a polling place
or precinct office and learn how elections are held and votes are counted. See how voting is made accessible
to people with language or mobility issues.
Be sure everyone knows that no political clothing can be worn and no
campaigning comments are allowed at a polling place.
Attend a community
event in your area – many communities have
special Veteran’s Day events – or there might be a special activity for
Thanksgiving.
Put up flags to honor
veteran’s at a local cemetery. Contact a local VFW or local cemeteries to get flags for
putting out flags on graves of Veterans – this may only be done in older
cemeteries.
Newer national
cemeteries instead have a Memorial
Avenue of full-size flags donated by families –
flags that were used to cover veteran or military caskets. They are flown on every holiday and whenever
there is a funeral for active military.
Your group might be able to arrange to help with this ceremony.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
(Baloo’s
Bugle April 2000)
Setting:
An old man is digging in his garden. Beside him on the ground is a young
sapling tree, which he is preparing to plant. Two men come up to him, stop,
and watch what he is doing.
Man
#1: What kind of tree are you planting?
Old
Man: (Stops digging and wipes his brow) It is an apple tree.
Man
#2: (astonished) AN APPLE TREE? Well, how old are you?
Old
Man: I'm 90 years old.
Man
#1: You're 90 years old! And you're planting a tree that will not give fruit
for many years?
Old
Man: Why not?
Man
#2: Well, you'll probably not be around when that tree finally bears fruit.
Old
Man: Tell me, did either of you eat any apples when you were little boys?
Both:
Of course we did. Why?
Old
Man: Then tell me this - who planted the trees that you got those apples
from?
Man
#2: Well it must have been, HMMM?
Man
#1: I don't know.
Old
Man: You see, someone planted the trees before you were born for you to enjoy
and now I'm doing the same for those who come after me. How else can I repay
those who planted trees before I was born?
Man
#1: You are a very wise man.
Man
#2: And we have been very foolish.
Old
Man: Thank you, and remember that what we do for our land today will be
around for many years from now. So make sure you leave something that you
will be proud of in the future.
Game:
LEAN-TOO
This
is a good game for pack meeting to get parents involved. The boys and parents
stand in a circle by dens holding hands. Everyone numbers off alternately one
or two. On the signal, keeping legs and backs as straight as possible, the
players who are "ones" lean forward toward the center of the
circle, while the "twos" lean outward. Players counterbalance each
other for support. Once the group has gotten its balance, slowly reverse the
leaners. Then have the players see how smoothly they can alternate.

Principle: 2000 Stripling Warriors
Elder Rex
D. Pinegar, a member of the Seventy, said: “Those of you who have read the
Book of Mormon are familiar with the story of the sons of Helaman. (See Alma
53:56–58.) When their fathers were converted to the gospel, the fathers
covenanted with the Lord that they would never again take up arms. But
eventually their homes were threatened by hostile armies to the extent that
the fathers would have to choose to fight or die. It was then that the two
thousand young men, not bound by the same covenant, volunteered to defend
their parents and their homes” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1982, 34; or
Ensign, Nov. 1982, 25). What can we learn from their faith and actions?
President James E. Faust told the Aaronic Priesthood holders of the Church:
“To me, you young men look like Helaman’s stripling warriors, ‘exceedingly
valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity.’ Like them, we hope
you are men who are ‘true at all times in whatsoever thing [you are]
entrusted’” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1998, 57; or Ensign, May 1998, 43).

Gospel Principle:
To
transgress means to break a law or a rule. When we do something wrong, we
transgress. When Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, Heavenly Father
commanded them to not eat fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan and ate the fruit. Heavenly Father cast
Adam and Eve out of the garden because they transgressed. All of Heavenly
Father’s children are given the agency to choose right or wrong. He has
promised us blessings
when we
choose the right. Heavenly Father wants us to return to live with Him again.
If we make bad choices, we need to repent and do better. We are responsible
for our own actions.
We believe
that man will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam’s
transgression.

person in each team a broom and an inflated balloon.
On the start
signal, the first person in each team puts the balloon on the floor and
proceeds to sweep the balloon to the cone. He circles the cone and continues
sweeping the balloon back to his teammates. He hands the broom to the next
teammate and walks to the end of the line. The next player sweeps the balloon
to the cone, circles it and sweeps back to his team. The balloon is to remain
on the ground at all times. If the balloon pops, the player must restart from
the starting line. The first team to have all players complete the clean sweep
with the balloon is declared the winner. Have extra balloons (inflated) on hand
in case one should pop. This game can also be played outdoors - fill the
balloons with water for some wild fun.

Achievement 10a
Cooperation is being helpful and working together with others toward
a common goal.
We can do this by serving together, and encouraging one another.
The first thing you can do is to become friends with the members of your den
and pack. Learn what they like to do and respect their differences. When you
plan activities, try to plan them so you can teach each other and learn about
everyone’s different interests. Support and encourage each member as he reaches
toward his goals. Serving together can also be a great way to build unity.
Scripture: Mosiah 18:21
21 And he commanded them that there should be no acontention one with another, but that
they should look forward with bone eye, having one faith and one baptism,
having their hearts cknit together in unity and in love one towards
another.

hands between their palms, quietly giving the button to someone else. When he
has gone the whole way around the circle, he says, “Button, button, who’s got
the button?” The people in circle take turns trying to guess who it could be.
Variation: A second similar version has the child who is

backs of the children in the circle, stopping at random. “It” tries to guess
where the button is, and once the button is found, takes his or her place in
the circle. Whoever had the button then becomes the new “it” and play begins
again.
