Q & A from the March Roundtable

Q: New books, who should buy them the parents or the ward?
A: It depends on if your ward buys them already. Most wards don't and it would be up to the parents to buy it. We are not sure of the cost yet and there will be an e-reader version sold on amazon.com. We hope there will be a pdf version that can be downloaded but we have not heard if there will be. The books are supposed to be at the scout store in May. There will be a new leader book as well. Each ward should buy at least one for their leaders to use.

Q: Who buys the belt loops for the wolves & bears?
A: The wolves & bears will now receive a belt loop for their award for completing an adventure. The yellow & red beads and the arrow points are going away. The cost of the beads and arrow points is small compared to the cost of the belt loops and some packs may have to adjust their budgets. On the webcasts it stated that the belt loops will cost $1.39 and the pins will be $1.89. The Webelos will still receive pins but now should earn 14 (7-Webelos & 7-Arrow of Light) where before they earned 8 to 16.

Q: How will the Webelos be able to earn all 14 adventures?
A: Some may by earned at home like the two Duty to God adventures. If they attend Webelos Pow Wow, held in January, or Webelos Woods, held in August, they will complete at least 2 adventures at each event.

Q: How should I plan the rest of the year:
A: This is a topic that we will discuss at Roundtable but there are some suggestions online: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/CubScouts/Leaders/ProgramPlanning.aspx
