Glass Stones Blue and Gold Neckerchief Slide

This fun neckerchief slide would be a good one to do for the boys for the Blue and Gold Banquet.  I found these cute "bottle cap images" on the site below for sale.  I bought them, and printed them on a size 4x6 on glossy photo paper.  Looking back, I wish I would have printed them on a nice regular paper.  I think having it on glossy photo paper made it hard for the modge podge to dry.

To make these cute neckerchief slides, buy the images below, and print the set of 12 out on a 4x6 paper, cut them out and add a little modge podge to the back of the glass stone, put the paper image on that and then add another small layer of modge podge to the back of the paper.  Let dry and put a back on them made out of 1/2" PVC pipe.  They did not cost much, and are a cute and easy neckerchief slide.  The company stopped selling these bottlecaps, so I made some of my own.  Click here to go to the page where I have them ready to download.

The first time I printed them I did it a size 5x7, but that made them a little too large to do them with the glass stones, so I just put a back on them.  I really quite like them.  They are cute and cheap!  You can see the difference in size above and below.

If you want to learn how to do the neckerchief slides that way, I have put that tutorial on our Akela's Council blog.  Click here.

Thanksgiving Pilgrim and Indian Neckerchief Slide

I found these cute foam stickers at Hobby Lobby.  I cut out oval shapes in foam a little bigger than the stickers, and put the stickers on them.  Then I added a back and they were done.  Cute, fast, and easy!

Halloween Neckerchief Slide idea

I found these small metal pins or buttons at Oriental Trading on clearance.  They were super cheap, and I realized that I could turn them into neckerchief slides by just glueing on a back.  With the pin already on them, it helped hold the glue tight.  They are kind of small - only 1", but I think they are just perfect.

50 Great States Neckerchief Slides - Core Value Citizenship - Theme 50 Great States

The Cub Scout Theme in November is 50 Great States and the Core Value is Citizenship.  I had fun making up these neckerchief slides.  I hope you enjoy them. To make them:
  • Print out the color PDF with the colored United States with the "50 Great States" logo.  It was prepared to be printed on business cards and cut in half, but you can also print it on cardstock.
  • Print the Instructions PDF on Cardstock, and cut out the state of Utah.  Turn it over and trace it backwards onto fun foam.  (If you turn it over before tracing, you won't see pen marks on the finished slide)
  • Cut out the foam pieces.
  • Turn the foam piece over and glue it to the colored "50 Great States" colored picture with a glue gun making sure the pen marks are on the back of the state of Utah
  • Attach a back to the neckerchief slide.  I like to use 1/2" PVC pipe cut into small strips.

Cub Scout Blue & Gold Star Person neckerchief slide idea - Astronomy, Citizenship

We did this cute little guy in Roundtable last week.  To make him, print out the PDF of the picture below, and cut out each shape.  Trace onto the fun foam.  Cut out the foam pieces, turn them over, and glue them together with a glue gun so you don't see the pen marks.  Glue on 7mm size eyes, draw on the nose and mouth, add some glitter glue for a neckerchief slide, and add a flag if desired.  Attach a section of PVC pipe to the back.

To print out a PDF of the Instructions and Shapes, click here

Cut out each shape and trace onto fun foam

Use a glue gun to assemble the pieces together

If you want wiggle eyes, the size I used was 7mm
Thanks to Nancy Brimhall for the cute idea for this neckerchief slide below!
You can do it with or without a hat
And the flag is optional also

First Aid Film Cannister Cub Scout Neckerchief Slides

We lost our website where we stored our files.  We asked Akela's Council blog to store our files for us.  You can find the information by clicking here.

For Roundtable this month, our Core Value was Health and Fitness.  We made campfire neckerchief slides, and we also made First Aid Kit neckerchief slides.  I have seen whole dens at Day Camp wearing these.  Then, if a boy needs a band aid, he has one and can put it on.  It can also pass off having a first aid kit for the younger boys.

To make these, you will need:
  • film canisters
  • first aid stickers I made and saved as a PDF you can print here (see below for what kind of labels, then print, and cut each label in half) or look at the bottom of the page for a jpg picture of it you can cut & paste if you don't want to print 60 above.
  • band aids - I gave them 4 different sizes
  • alcohol packets (I got 100 at Walmart for $1.99)
  • black pipe cleaners (I cut into 1/3)
  • safety pin
  • and I also had them put in a Jolly Rancher Candy
  • They used to put in 25 cents for a payphone - times have changed :)

I used a drill with a 3/32 drill bit to drill 2 small holes in the back of the film cannister.

Then put in the black pipe cleaners, and twist the very ends, then fold the ends back so it won't poke you while you wear it.

Once you have in the pipe cleaner, and know where the back of the film canister is, put the first aid sticker on the front.

Stack the bandaids - I gave them one of each of 4 sizes, fold the alcohol packet in half and place it on top of the stack, then roll it up like a sleeping bag.

Place them in the container, add the safety pin and Jolly Rancher candy, and put the lid on.  You are done.  Hope you enjoy!

Campfire neckerchief slides - Core Value Health and Fitness

We made some new neckerchief slides at Roundtable last night.  I love neckerchief slides!  I think they are so fun to wear.  Tonight we made some campfires because the core value this month is Health and Fitness.  That means all things outdoors!  Nothing better than a camp fire to make you think of the great outdoors.

We lost our site where we stored our files, so we asked AkelasCouncil.blogspot.com to store our file for us.  To print this file, please CLICK HERE to go to their blog to print out the PDF.

Using the back side of the template (so you won't see the pen marks), trace it onto fun foam.

Cut out the fire pieces, turn them over (so you don't see the pen marks), and hot glue them together.  I found these small craft sticks at Hobby Lobby.  They are shorter than regular popsicle sticks, and worked quite well.

For the backs, I like to use 1/2" PVC pipe.  It works great!

Then, you can use whatever you want to decorate it with.  I tried it with glitter glue, and sharpie markers, but I think I might like the plain ones the best.  Good luck!
